Cimar Courses

The Maritime Instruction and Training Centre, CIMAR, in accordance with international conventions ratified by our country and the policies of the International Maritime Organization, IMO, in order to ensure safety of human life at sea and protection of the aquatic environment, and fulfilling its role as a Technical Organization, offers courses and training in areas of:

  • Deck
  • Communications
  • Engines
  • Safety and Security
  • Others from Maritime and Port Field

Courses are scheduled each year and they can be viewed particularly in the aforementioned areas.

These courses are aimed at familiarizing seafarers with their responsibility concerning safety of the ship, passengers, crew and cargo, as well as marine environment protection in terms of pollution the ship can cause, by handing them the available information that allow them to take the aforementioned safety and security measures, particularly in relation to maneuvers and bridge equipment management.

Communication courses are aimed at training seafarers working in the radiocommunications area or operating communication systems on board, and terrestrial support maritime communication media, which allow to comply with the Radio Regulations and the rules stipulated by the GMDSS, ensuring specially radiocommunications services during emergencies. Both officers and those aimed at delivering services in engine rooms must comply with a training programme that includes training courses on propulsion engines and electrical, electronic and control installations, which allow to operate the corresponding main and auxiliary machinery, as well as carrying out a safe engine watchkeeping. Safety and security are the main issues of the training in order to appropriately operate on board, however, apart from what is incumbent solely on individual safety, courses from the point of view of passenger safety have been included, for example what to do in an emergency situation and different cargo handling, not only on board, but also in ports, dealing this way with the complete maritime safety. Seafarers comprehensive training is achieved, both in operation areas inherent to every specialist and in the areas related to general matters in different levels, as it is the case of instructor individual training, issues concerning cargo operations, Antarctic subjects and others not necessarily included in an specific title.
