It is a pleasure for the Director to welcome and kindly greet those who visit CIMAR.
According to the research and analysis carried out by the International Maritime Organization, IMO, marine accidents occur nowadays mainly due to human failure, which in most of the cases could have been avoided with crews properly trained. By virtue of the foregoing, for more than two decades the Maritime Instruction and Training Centre, CIMAR, has been instructing and training personnel from the maritime field, especially officers and crews of the Merchant Marine and fishing vessels. This function has been granted by the Chilean Government through S.D. (M), May 13th, 1987, and it is oriented to increase the knowledge and training standards, with the aim to concretely contribute to the maritime safety and the protection of the aquatic environment.
In order to achieve this, we have a vastly experienced team of instructors and administrative personnel, highly prepared and committed to give our students a professional and cordial environment. We offer and make available, to whom receives instruction at this Centre, the opportunity to put into practice in modern simulators the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom, which contributes immeasurably to the development and achievement of professional competences to safely operate the equipments and systems available on board the vessels, which has led to obtain a well-known national and international prestige as a consequence of serious work and academic excellence.
CIMAR understands training is a process that requires continuous improvements, this is why we have the quality international standard ISO 9001:2008 and NCH2728, so we are committed to steadily evolve in order to develop the academic activities in accordance with the international standards the maritime field imposes.
In the international field, CIMAR is recognized as a branch of the World Maritime University (WMU), located in Malmö, Sweden, and is also a member of the Global Association of Maritime Education and Training in Asia Pacific, GlobalMET, both entities acknowledged by the IMO. These connections allow us to have a strong international presence and to have updated information regarding maritime instruction and training topics in order to apply them to our activity.
Finally, every effort we make through you dear friends is aimed at being a contribution to the development of the Nation's maritime interests.
