Chile has consolidated several initiatives to contribute to environmental conservation, such as its commitments to climate action, presenting a reinforcement of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the fifth Biennial Update Report and the first Adaptation Communication. The strengthened NDC includes the Long-Term Climate Strategy 2050 and extends, by at least one million hectares, the current area of protection of terrestrial and inland aquatic ecosystems towards 2030.

Likewise, we have been the first developing country to declare its commitment to carbon reduction by 2050, according to the policy of a sustainable and low-carbon future. For this reason, Chile's representation in the IMO has had an active and permanent participation in the Inter-Sessional Working Group on the Reduction of Green House Gases Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG).

Understanding the importance of the role of the State in the fight against climate change, the Government of Chile extends its Turquoise Foreign Policy as a concrete contribution to promote increased ocean conservation, actively participating in the "Americas for Ocean Protection" coalition, and supporting the 30x30 initiative (protection of 30% of the oceans by 2030).

Finally, in the area of fisheries and the protection of marine species, Chile has been a pioneer in the implementation of the Agreement on Port State Control Measures to prevent, deter and eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, being part of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization (SPRFMO), where Chile has actively supported the initiative for the Establishment of a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the high seas, and the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).
