Chile is progressing on its path toward carbon neutrality and resilience. Our primary goal is to update our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for 2025. Domestic stakeholders are working to enhance the monitoring of greenhouse gases (GHGs) to obtain increasingly accurate estimates of the impacts of measuring, capturing, and reducing emissions, including those from the maritime transport sector.

Chile's energy grid is the second cleanest in Latin America, with expectations that the country will account for 14% of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The country has made significant progress in diversifying its clean energy sources, particularly in wind and solar power. In line with these efforts, Chile launched the first electric tugboat in Latin America in December 2024, which began operating in the southern region in 2025.

The international governance of marine resources is central to our foreign policy. Approximately 43% of our jurisdictional waters are protected under various schemes, and we actively promote the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean and its resources through multiple multilateral forums and regional fisheries organizations.
